MacRitchie Trek
Mood: Stressed on backdated blogs..
On the 22nd of March, I went to MacRitchie again but with Fadh. Brought along the Nikon D70 on its virgin trip outdoors. And the day started really early for me. I was ready by 0645hrs but I had to listen to dad's term and conditions about the camera. It lasted 25 mins.. i'm not even surprised if he prepared a written contract for me to sign. Anyways, I reached Toa Payoh 15 mins late and Fadh was already there smoking. He took a few sunrise pictures and took bus 157 from the interchange. I have to admit, i was pretty much pooped and I wasnt used to waking this early. But once we started walking, I was pretty much okay. The first things we saw were squirrels and monkeys.. The trek was also uneventful. But we took lotsa pictures, nice beautiful pictures of sceneries, sunlights, leaves and insects.. Especially flowers.
[Look up Album 2 for the pics.]
We took out bloody own time to walk up the dense trail, walking behind this caucasian pair of mother and son and a group of China girls.. The boy was telling his mom about this missiles that can't hit this tank's wheel and what nots.. Its funny the way he described it and we could actually hear his voice 500m away. Thats how loud he was amongst the creaking and the chirping of insects. There was also an explosion somewhere and I found out that the arm forces were having a training of some sort.
The scary part of the trek was when we were resting at one of the rest stop and we saw one of the chinese girls walking aimlessly with a plastic bag of exercise book, a bottle of water, her wallet and keys. We just thought nothing of it and even had a laugh about the way she walked. At the end of route one, we saw her waiting by the map and giggled some more but there's when we got freaked out. We had to continue the trek along Bukit Timah Country Club and I realised she was following us. When we stopped to look at monkeys, she was 200m behind but looking up at the trees. We walked a few hundred metres and turn and she did the same too. Sheesh.. So we kinda raced down to the ranger station hoping that she just wanted to play with the monkey that we saw before. And can you believe it, while at the ranger station, she kinda twirled and walked in a daze before asking me an unbelievable question...
She came to me and in halting english, she asked, ' I want take bus. Where is the bus stop?' I was thinking, what the hell?! how do you find a bus in the middle of the jungle? She is definitely lost. So when Fadh came out from the gents, we seeked help from the ranger. Luckily there was a chinese ranger that she can talk to.. Apparently, she can't wait for her group so she decided to walk on ahead which is not a bright idea. Listen everyone out there, always stay in your group during a trek. You wouldn't want to get lost and be labelled a 'stalker' by other trekkers.
So anyway, we continued our trek towards the HSBC Tree Top Walk and passed by 2 rangers who happily informed us that the tree top walk is closed on Mondays. Haiz.. So much for the adrenalin rush for the Tree Top walk. Change of plans, we decided to take the road less travelled. And we started singing army songs [Fadh's idea] , thats where we met some groups of commandos having their trainings. They are kinda rough cos with their full packs, radios and stuff, they don't care if they stomp on our feet or bulldozed their way through 2 innocent singing people.. After that, the trek was uneventful except for the giant monitor lizard that scared the shit out of us and 3 other monitor lizards that crossed our path. we took many pics of flowers and shadows. [I must say, the Nikon D70 is awesome.. WOOT!! I love it to bits.] Oh and during the boardwalk around the reservoir, we walked past this chinese grave. Its so eerie. And there's offerings. I wonder how old the grave is. Whose is it? Wouldn't want to dig out or anything but.. u know, jus find out who it belongs to.
Well, we ended the trek 5 hrs after we started cos we jolly well took our time, strolling and singing. And not forgetting taking pictures. We ended up at Tiong Bahru for KFC lunch where we saw this guy with a cotton bud stuck behind his ears.. LEPAK SAK.. hehehe
